Logical Reasoning Test

Introduction to logical reasoning test:

Following are samples of logical test questions  that are usually asked in entrance examinations, topics like logical puzzles, word problems, series completion, clocks problems, coding decoding all these are included under logical reasoning.

Reasoning is the cognitive process of looking for reasons, beliefs, conclusions, actions or feelings.

Different forms of such reflection on reasoning occur in different fields. In philosophy, the study of reasoning typically focuses on what makes reasoning efficient or inefficient, appropriate or inappropriate, good or bad. Philosophers do this by either examining the form or structure of the reasoning within arguments, or by considering the broader methods used to reach particular goals of reasoning

1All the nine digits are arranged here so as to form four square numbers   9, 81, 324, 576   how would you put them together so as to form a pssible square number and a single largest possible square number?

solution :

The lowest square number i can think of containing all the nine digits once and only once is 139854276 which is square of 11826 and the highest square number under the same conditions is 923187456 which is the square of 30384.

2.  which one would you say is heavier , a pound of cotton or a pound of gold?

solution:

A pound of cotton is heavier than a pound of gold because cotton is weighed by the avoirdupois pound, which consists of 16 ounces, whereas gold, being a precious metal weighed by a troy pound which contains 12 ounces .

3.   Can you place 10 coins in such a way that they lie in 5 straight lines and on each line there are 4 coins?

4. I have two 10 paise coins . If 4/5 of what i have is 8/9 of what you have, how much do you have?

solution :   18 paise.

5. There is a number whose double is greater than its half by 45. Can you find this number?

As the difference between twice the number and half of its amounts to 45, or half of the number plus the whole of its represented by 1 adds up to 45,

1/2  + 1  = 1/2 + 2/2 =3/2 = 45

now we have to find what number 3/2 is equal of 45. To do this we invert 3/2 to 2/3 and multiply by 45

this gives  us  ,   2/3  x 45  = 30

therefore, 30 is the number

6. Can you write 31 using only digit 3 five times, logial ?

solution :   its very simple:

=   33   +   3   +  3/3

=     27 +3 + 1

= 31

(1) JHWMD (2) HJUMD
(3) JHMUD (4) JHTJMD
(5) None of these
8. How many such pairs of letters are there in the world SPLENIC each of which has as many
letters between them in the word as there are between them in the English alphabet?

(1) Four (2) Two
(3) Three
(4) One
(5) None of these

2_50+40x 10 ÷96=?

(1) 104 (2) 98 (3) 182 (4) 192 (5) None of these

10An accurate clock shows 6 ‘o Clock in the morning,  through how many hour hand rotate when the clock shows 2’o Clock  in the afternoon?

Sol:  From 6’o clock  to 2pm total hours =  8 hrs

Angle traced by hour hand in 8 hours = (  `(360 )/(12)` * 8  )o=  180o

11. A can run 22.5 m while B can run 25m , in a kilometer race B beats A by :

Sol: when B runs 22.5 m, A runs 45/2 m

When B runs 1000m,  A runs  `(45)/(2)` x `(1)/(25)` x 1000 m  = 900 m

`:.` B beats A by 100 m

12.  Trace the odd men out 3, 5, 7, 12, 17, 19

Sol: All the numbers are prime except 12

My forthcoming post is on Ray Definition with example, and this topic Least Common Denominator Finder will give you more understanding about Math.

13.  XY6P  XY5Q XY4R ******  XY2T, find the missing term

Sol:    First two letters x and Y are static,  and next letter is increasing that is P Q R S T  , so missing in sequence is S

and the numbers 6 , 5, 4 are decreasing by one, which menas next is 3

so the missing term is XY3S

14.   Find the missing box ,

img1

Sol: Consider numbers from top, double the number and substract1, 2, 3 …… so next will be  2(22) – 5 = 39

so answer is 39

15.  Find the missing number?

 Sol:     img2

Each column adds to 14, so the missing is
